PROPERTY MAINTENANCE: Volunteers are needed for exterior property maintenance, primarily in spring, summer and fall. Opportunities for skilled tradespeople are also available for special projects at our properties.
INCOME TAX PREPARATION: LCCH operates a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, and uses volunteers extensively for tax preparation during the tax filing season (January through April). Training is available and IRS certification is required. The training and recruiting process for VITA volunteers begins in the fall for the following tax season. A commitment of approximately 4-8 hours per week is required
SEASONAL OPPORTUNITIES: The holidays can be a difficult time for families or individuals who are experiencing homelessness or personal crisis. Consider using your time and talents to provide Easter baskets, summer activity packs, pumpkins, Thanksgiving meals or educational toys for our Transitional Housing residents. We are always in need of hats, gloves, food or gas cards and other Christmas gift items for single adults. You may also purchase Christmas gifts from a “wish list” for the children in our program.
SUPPLY DRIVES: You can help our clients by organizing collection events for school supplies, personal care products, coats, books or blankets. This is a great group project and a good way to engage children or young adults in community service.
SPECIAL SKILLS: If you have a special skill or service that you are willing to share, such as hair styling/barbering, photography, furniture or bicycle repair, or early childhood education, please contact us about how you can help.
CLERICAL: At various times throughout the year, LCCH can use help with clerical projects, marketing and special events.
HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS PRESENTATIONS: It can be difficult to provide meaningful volunteer activities for children or groups. LCCH staff is available for presentations about the challenges of homelessness, tailored to your age group or interests. Presentations may be combined with other service projects.
LCCH maintains the confidentiality of our clients. For that reason, direct service opportunities are limited. Volunteers may be asked to sign confidentiality agreements, depending on the nature of their service.
